PAROLA D AUTORE | T2 Sait Tamaki Hikikomori. Adolescence Without End, University of Minnesota Press, Minneapolis London 2013, pp. 30-31 Hikikomori: Adolescence Without End Nel testo che segue Saito Tamaki, psicologo e scrittore giapponese, descrive le principali caratteristiche dei pazienti hikikomori, termine da lui stesso coniato. In this chapter I intend to give readers get a clearer understanding by presenting the results of a survey conducted in 1989. Before launching into the results, however, I will first describe the survey itself. The survey involved patients who during the six years between January 1983 and December 1988 received treatment in the offices affiliated with the research institute to which I belong. To be a subject, the patients had to meet the following criteria: Do not have an underlying disease such as schizophrenia, manic-depressive disorder, or an organic psychosis Had already experienced three months or more of lethargy and withdrawal by the time of their earliest consultation Had been receiving continuous treatment for at least six months as of June 1989 Had come to the clinic at least five times (this criterion was included because many consultations involve only the parents alone) [ ] Our survey turned up the following results, which one might use to help understand the major characteristics of social withdrawal. 202 | SEZIONE 2 | Psicopatologia del ciclo di vita The average length of time for the period of withdrawal, according to the survey, was thirty-nine months (three years and three months) Men are overwhelmingly more likely to experience withdrawal The percentage of eldest sons is especially high The average age at which the problem first arose was 15.5 years old The most common trigger initiating the withdrawal was skipping school , seen in 68.8 percent of the cases After the problem began, a long period of time elapsed before the patient came to seek counseling at a treatment facility The families are middle class or above, and there were relatively few families where the parents were divorced or living apart because of work. Rispondi 1. Elenca e commenta i criteri che Saito Tamaki utilizza per creare il proprio studio di ricerca. 2. Elenca e commenta le caratteristiche principali dei ragazzi hikikomori che emergono dallo studio di Saito Tamaki.
